I am Professor of Economics in the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews.

I am a behavioural economist, working on two complementary lines of research.

The first addresses fundamental questions about human motivation and behaviour, judgment and decision making.

The second applies insights from behavioural economics, and the behavioural sciences in general, to improve behaviours that relate to global challenges, especially in the areas of health (e.g., antimicrobial resistance, spread of infectious disease) and environment (e.g., climate change, biodiversity loss).

In addition,  I am interested in experimental methods and participate in replication projects, meta-analyses and forecasting collaborations.

I am co-organiser of the AMR Intervention Development and Forecasting Collaboration. This is a crowd-sourced project, aiming to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

I am also part of the NERC funded SPACES project (GBP 3.4mil), aiming to understand public health risks and environmental impacts of plastic pollution in developing countries.

I have provided consultancy and advise for several private and public bodies in both Scandinavia and the UK.  I am currently a member of the Scottish Biodiversity Programme advisory group and the National Litter Strategy working group of the Scottish Government.  A copy of my CV is available here.
